Tryouts announced for the Maverick 18U HP Programs

The Maverick HP Program has come a long way since it's inception in 2005.  But there are still more improvements to make!

One of the biggest factors contributing to the success of the program has been the implementation of supervised strength and conditioning training.  University Coaches across the country regularly comment on the strength of our athletes.  So is it possible to improve on it?

Historically we have attempted to make our strength gains with athletes during their indoor season.  But the best time to train and make strength gains is during the off-season, which is why for the 2010-2011 season we'll be training with our teams during the summer.

This year we'll be having tryouts for our 18U HP teams (Male and Female) during the second week of June.  At that time we'll be selecting a portion of the team (60-80% potentially) who will undergo supervised strength training during the summer.  A second tryout will happen in the September timeframe to select the remaining roster positions.  Athletes who are not selected to the team at the June tryout but wish to train with the team are welcome to join in for the training but it is not mandatory.

The training schedule will accommodate important events and programs like the OVA High Performance Centre and the Ontario Provincial Team Program for those athletes who are selected.  Our goal is to integrate well with these programs to provide the most beneficial training opportunity for athletes.
