Longhorns "Rise-up" to playing up!

2010-03-07

Playing Up means playing at an age group older than you own. Often there is no big difference but when the jump is from 16u to 17u their is one physical change to the game. The net gets higher! Not a huge amount; about 8cm or 3 inches but it can change angles and attack percentages.

This past weekend the 16u Longhorns competed up an age class and proved that they will be ready for the change next year. Taking a second place pool standing into the playoffs, the 'Horns won their quarter final and set them selves up for a podium possibility. A tough 3 set loss to the top seed Thunderbolts left one chance for the guys to bring home some hardware. They responded buy knocking off the Barrie Elites (2nd Seed) in the bronze. Good work coach Prasil et al.

The 17u Desperados were determined to prove their previous Gold in a depleted field was no fluke. Travelling to Kitchener the boys banded together to fight tough through pool play. They took down two of those "missing teams" from the last event and won their pool. A quarter final victory set the team off to the final four again. This time however fortune did not favour the Desperados as they lost tough semifanl and bronze medal matches to Durham in two and Waterloo in three. Great work Boys; remember Provincials are just around the corner and polishing up the little thngs will be important to regain that medal standing.

The 17u BlackJacks and Rattlers will be reporting in soon; Stay Tuned!
