High Performance Girls Team Coaches for 2016/2017

This is the first of four announcement of coaches for the 2016/2017. First up the Girls HP program head coaches:

 14U Girls pre-HP (Outlaws): John Spack

John Spack will lead our 14U Girls pre-HP program.

John Spack returns to the 14U age group after a very successful 2016 season with the 16U Outlaws. Under his guidance the Outlaws finished tied for 5thin Ontario after never having played at the Premier level for their whole OVA Club careers prior to last season.

John played an instrumental role in developing countless Team Ontario, Junior National Team, CIS, CCAA and NCAA athletes and most recently three Senior National Women’s Team athletes.

Spack is no stranger to the 14U age group having last coached at this age group in 2015. The 2016 15U Ambush coaches credits Spack for providing the bulk of the Ambush athletes a very strong technical base as well as instilling a passion and strong work ethic. The 2016 15U Ambush finished 4that Nationals East.

Spack is a certified level two coach (level three in progress) and has over 25 years of coaching experience ranging from Senior Women’s all the way to 13 year olds.

14U Girls pre-HP (Raiders): Andy Sluiter

Andy enters his fifth season with the Maverick Volleyball Club. He has progressively worked and gained experience assistant coaching and head coaching over time with the Club. Last season Andy coached our 13U Girls mostly comprised of 12U aged athletes and they progressed technically but more important developed a love and passion for the sport.

Andy will work closely with Spack this season as he gains valuable head coaching experience in the High Performance program.

Andy, is a certified level one coach is working on his level two coaching certification.

15U Girls (Ambush): Patrick Henderson

Pat enters his second season with the Club and will be coaching the Ambush for the 2016/2017 season. Henderson, a certified level two coach, brings his wealth of experience coaching for the Scarborough Titans and Evolution Volleyball Club.

Pat coached the 16U Wildcards to a tied for 5thin Division 1 Tier 2 (tied 14thoverall) at 2016 National East Championships. He has been actively involved in our Young Maverick programs as well as our summer development programs.

15U Girls (Stampede): Colin Walker

Colin returns to the “well” to help develop the next wave of Maverick athletes after having finished a four-year run with our 2016 18U Maverick Broncos.

Colin is a certified level three coach (level four in progress), a professional educator as well as leading the Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence in Ottawa. This past summer Colin was on the coaching staff for our Youth National Development Team program.

Walker joins a long list of dedicated coaches in the Club who joined the Club to coach their children but continue to coach after they graduate.

16U Girls (BlackJacks): John Nguyen

John enters his 16thseason with the Club and his 20thseason coaching volleyball. Nguyen is a certified level two coach and will be starting his level three courses this season.

Nguyen returns to the 2001 birth year after guiding the 2016 15U Ambush to a tied for 5that the 2016 15U Ontario Championships and a 4thplace finish at the 2016 National East Championships.

John has helped to develop; athletes selected to Team Ontario, athletes playing in the CIS/CCAA/ NCAA, recipients of Quest for Gold funding as well as Junior National Team, Senior Women’s National “B” team and recently the Senior Women’s National “A” team athletes.

16U Girls (Wildcards): Christian Tanguay

Christian, level two certified, returns for his second season with the 2001 birth year. He lead the 15U Stampede to a Premier berth by the end of the 2016 season and a rank of 19thgoing into the Ontario Championships (112 teams in Ontario). This was the first time in the Club’s history that we had two teams ranked in the top 20 in Ontario at this age group. Unfortunately, they did not meet their seed but Christian is aiming to be in the top 16 of the province by the end of the 2016/2017 season.

Christian has 14 years of coaching experience, eight with the Club. Christian is notorious amongst the Club coaches for his planning and attention to detail. 

17U Girls (Gold Rush): Nick Krawchuk

Nick enters is seventh season with the Club having coached the 14U Outlaws last season to the Premier level finishing tied for 9thin Division 1 Tier 2 (tied for 25thin Ontario).

Nick was a member of the coaching staff (as a head and assistant coach in that 6 year span), that helped to develop the Maverick Class of 2015 arguably one of the strongest graduating classes in Club history. Nick spent this summer coaching our region’s entry in the 2016 Ontario Summer Games at the 14U boys age level.

Krawchuk a level two certified coach, returns to work with the 2000 birth year when he previously worked with them in the 2015 season.

18U Girls (Broncos): Judi Mousseau

Judi returns to the 1999 birth year to complete the two-year cycle.

The senior Maverick athletes had never played at the Premier level in their careers until 2016, having made a break through in their 2015 16U year finishing tied for 8that the Ontario Championships.

Judi guided their progression in 2016 at 17U to a Grand Prix berth by season’s end, a slight hiccup at Provincials with a 12thplace finish but they bounced back and finished tied for 5that Nationals. Coach Judi, a certified level two coach, has 20 plus years of coaching experience and will be looking to guide the 1999s to a huge breakthrough in their last season of Club volleyball.
