Maverick Volleyball — Beach Team, Summer 2010

Maverick Volleyball Club is officially launching a beach competitive program this summer. This is a great opportunity for indoor players to keep improving all their skills while learning about beach tactics. It is also an excellent summer activity that can improve your fitness level and refine your motor skills.

Age Divisions

Athletes registered in this program will participate on the OVA Beach Tour and will compete in one of the following categories:

Girls only: 12U born in 1998 or later
Girls & Boys: 13U born in 1997 or later
Girls & Boys: 14U born in 1996 or later
Girls & Boys: 15U born in 1995 or later
Girls & Boys: 16U born in 1994 or later
Youth Open: All divisions 24U born in 1986 or later

Program info

Practice

Teams will practice twice a week with a certified beach coach and team coaches from the start of the season in early June to the end of the season in early August. Practice site will be at the MaxVolley Leitrim facility. Additional weekly training will be prescribed according to each team.

Tournaments

All teams will compete on the Ontario Volleyball Association Youth Beach Tour. They will be required to participate in 3 events, 1 satellite event in Ottawa, 1 tour stop in Cobourg and 1 tour stop in Toronto. Participating in these three events will permit teams to be eligible for the Provincial and National Championships if they desire to compete at that level.

Coaching

The head coach is a certified beach coach. Each team will be assigned a team coach that is certified NCCP or in the process of becoming certified. Each team coach will have no more than 4 teams (8 athletes) under his supervision to permit more interactions between the coach and the athletes.

Equipment

All competitive players are provided with two practices shirts, game shorts and jersey and water bottle.

Tryouts

There are no tryouts for the beach club. Any athlete that is ready to commit themselves to train in a competitive setting will be accepted into the club.  Players should sign up as a team of two (same gender and ideally same age category) Individual athletes can also register and will be matched up in training sessions.

Fees

Fees may vary according to age and number of events in which team participates. Fees will be based on the following : MaxVolley membership, OVA membership, tournament registration, equipment cost, coaching honorarium. Please note, there is a $15 administrative fee (plus HST) to register for this program.
