About Us

The Maverick Volleyball Club serves Ottawa and it's surrounding communities in providing our youth with high quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership, organizational, team and life skills for the benefit of its members.

A Message From the President

In 1985 a new Volleyball Club was formed and took to the road to compete in OVA events across the province. The Club was an opportunity for east end athletes to get a higher level of Volleyball competition and coaching to help them reach for their goals.

The club had an immediate impact finishing in the OVA top 6 their first year the success was underscored with 6 athletes being named to Provincial team rosters over the next 5 years and over 2 dozen playing in CIAU volleyball before 1994.

The Maverick name was used to signify a new way of doing things in Ottawa and this theme was evident in the choosing of names for the teams; Mustangs, Longhorns, Posse, Colts and Gamblers appeared at OVA competitions and OCVL leagues.

After a down period for family growth my aspirations soon returned and a new version of the club took shape. Fueled by the visions of former players the club has grown to heights I could never have imagined when I started.

Now affectionately known as just the "MAVS" our programs are taking many different directions. With our addition of the High Performance program for development of elite athletes and the Developmental camps and programs to our full competitive rosters, we have something for everyone in youth volleyball.

All of this has not caused us to become complacent, working with several key individuals in the volleyball community we are looking to marry our programs to the new Volleyball Canada, Long Term Athlete Development Model in order to get the most from our players and coaches. A player/parent handbook takes up many kilobytes on my PC as I write this. Also on the table are new club policies and standards to be put in place this upcoming season. The addition of specialty coaches and program coordinators means we are trying to keep everyone as up to date as possible.

Not to be left behind in the summer, the Mavericks are the only club in the region to offer an organized beach league as well as specialized beach training programs.

There is a lot going on around here and we don't want to stop; so hop on board for the ride of your sporting life.
